Looking for….

08-22-2007

I am looking for information and insight on two products that are commonly used in the vegan diet and I would like to experiment with both to see if they would be beneficial to my eating habits and lifestyle. Does anyone know where I can buy textured vegetable protein and nutritional yeast here in Tucson? TVP is made from soy and I hear it is a great meat substitute. Nutritional yeast is added to foods to provide essential amino acids and can give a cheesy texture to foods as well. Has anyone tried either one? Thank you in advance!

My son worked at Sprout’s Farmers Market in Oro Valley about a year ago and he said that he is alomost positve that they sell it there. You may want to call and see. I am going to Sunflower Market today to see if they sell it. MY boyfriend is on a “everything” homemade kick so I am trying to stretch the budget and was told TVP is a great way to do it.

Hi Lori!
Thanx so much for the tip! Sprouts is about an hour drive from my place so I called Sunflower and they do not carry the TVP or the nutritional yeast. I was able to find both at New Life Health on Broadway and Craycroft. I was pleasantly surprised how inexpensive the TVP is: $2.79/lb. They sell it in both the large and small granules. The nutritional yeast was inexpensive as well. I just bought a little of that to test it in recipes. Good luck with your cooking endeavors and thanx again for the tip!
