Growing up, St. Nikolaus (Sankt Nikolaus) Day was always celebrated in our home. Being of German and French descent and Catholicism as her religion, my mom always celebrated this with us kids. As tradition goes, children set out their shoes the night of December 5th. Children can also leave a treat for St. Nikolaus’ horse alongside the shoes. The morning after, depending if you are good or bad, you receive a treat or a switch to get beat with. Aaahhh tradition. My mom always made sure we had a small treat in our shoes even if money was tight, which it usually was. You can read more about it here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saint_Nicholas
So this year I will do this with Peanut. I hope when he has children he will share the tradition with them as well. Happy St. Nick’s!!
